Reigning NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa is one of the few remaining veterans wrestling for the brand. At NXT Halloween Havoc, the Psycho Killer shocked fans by successfully defending the title against upstart rookie Bron Breakker. Many fans expected a cameo from Breakker’s father, Rick Steiner. It made sense, especially considering the show heavily featured Chucky the killer doll. Steiner has a history with the possessed toy dating back to his days in WCW.

In a recent interview with Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT, Tommaso revealed that the original plans did include Rick Steiner. At the last moment, Rick pulled out. Ciampa was looking forward to the two meeting.

“So, he was meant to be at Halloween Havoc. He pulled out last minute. Maybe because I retained, but I won’t say that’s why [laughs]. I would love to be friends with him. I said to Bron ‘I don’t want to meet your dad, I want him to be my buddy.’ I want us to exchange numbers and whatever Rick Steiner does. He’s probably not a big phone guy, I don’t know [laughs]. But I just wanna be friends with him.”

After defeating Breakker at Havoc, Tommaso Ciampa took the NXT title to the UK. He’s defended the title on the overseas tour in three-way matches with Breakker and Sami Zayn. The feud will likely be rekindled at some point on NXT television.

Fans can only wonder what might have been if the Dog Faced Gremlin had another confrontation with Chucky. The doll did refer to his history with Bron’s father during the show. Unfortunately, a second showdown wasn’t in the cards.

So far, WWE has been very careful about using the Steiner name on NXT 2.0. This comes despite the fact that Bron Breakker is the most obvious Steiner relative on the planet outside of dad Rick and Uncle Scott. Perhaps Rick Steiner will be able to make it next time there’s a scheduled reunion between the two.
