The Rock has been the subject of all kinds of rumors regarding his return to WWE. One of the most common theories is that he would return at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas to take on Roman Reigns. Ringside News reported exclusively that the match was never in the plans. Dwayne Johnson himself has now confirmed that report.
The Great One spoke to Andrew Freund from Dish Nation where he addressed the rumored bout. While he didn’t shut down the idea of a match with Reigns ever happening, he put the current rumors to bed. He said quite plainly that they’re not true.
“I can tell you, there is no truth to that right now. Possibly down the road, we will see. We stay very close, myself and Roman Reigns, and I’m very happy and very proud with the work he is doing as well as The Usos, my other family members. Those guys will continue to do what they’re doing and we’ll see down the road.”
The Rock’s return to WWE has also been rumored for Survivor Series. Those notions were quickly shot down when news broke that Johnson would be out of the country working on his TV series, Young Rock. It would be nearly to fly from Australia to New York City in time for the show, jetlag notwithstanding.
While his future in the WWE remains an unknown, there is no question that The Rock has been busy. He’s recently been out promoting his latest movie, Red Notice. Rocky stars alongside Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds in the new action comedy.
It’s only a matter of time before The Rock finally comes back to WWE. Right now, though, the timing just isn’t there. Fans will have to remain patient if they want to see Dwayne Johnson step back into the ring. You can watch The Rock’s entire segment below.
