The New Day remains one of the best tag teams in pro wrestling history. When the New Day made their debut as a group, they were initially heels but were eventually turned into babyfaces due to their rise in popularity. They are unlikely to ever become heels again according to them. It seems Kingston believed the group had a special responsibility as well.
The New Day certainly made their marks in the pro wrestling world. This is because their infectious positivity and hilarious antics made them a huge hit with fans.
While speaking with Into the Danger Zone, Kofi Kingston talked about The New Day showing their support for the Black Lives Matter movement during its height. This included them writing messages on their armbands and even taking a knee during an episode of Friday Night Smackdown.
Kofi Kingston stated that The New Day had a responsibility to do what was right and support the Black Lives Matter movement. This is because the group is a believer in all that is good in the world.
“Use your celebrity for positivity and use your voice, you know? When you get to be in a position where you have eyes on you, it then becomes your responsibility to do what’s right on that public platform so people see that. Because seeing is believing, it spreads, right? When people see you doing something that actually effects them in their life, you know, it means a lot. So we wanted to show our support for the African American community and show up for the fight against social injustice because, again, the more people that know, like, the more people are effected.
And then they go and they act, so what we do is every important and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously, so it just felt like it was the right thing to do to show the unity that we don’t stand for social injustice. We will not tolerate it, and it’s important for people to know where we stand on those issues.”
It was also said that The New Day has more creative freedom than others in WWE. The New Day will always fight for what they believe in and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
