The intense stress of being a professional wrestler has been amplified lately for many who make their living in the business. WWE recently let several office employees go, including a high-level Senior VP. They’ve been firing wrestlers in batches periodically since before the pandemic.
Even Ring of Honor, once thought the premier destination to launch or re-launch a wrestling career, has released their entire talent roster. With wrestlers in WWE constantly working in fear of losing their jobs, it’s been a difficult period to hold a job as a wrestler. Today, Wrestle Votes is reporting that an inside source at WWE tells them that more cuts may be coming very soon.
“I have unconfirmed names, but hearing WWE may be releasing a small number of talent today. Another uneasy day in Stamford….”
The names of the potential cuts have not been released at the moment. The news comes on the heels of Eric Bischoff’s prediction on his 83 Weeks podcast that more WWE cuts might be happening shortly.
In August, it was reported that the cycle of releases by WWE was going to be a regular thing moving forward. That’s no solace to the growing list of talented performers who have been left without their dream job. The rumor is not confirmed, so maybe this round of cuts won’t happen.
While many have found work in AEW, Impact, or MLW, the mass influx of new unsigned talent after the Ring of Honor situation will make the market even more competitive. If roster cuts do come today, it will be another huge blow to morale in the WWE locker room.
