Big E truly had a long and difficult road to the top of WWE. After a solid run on NXT, he was called up to the main roster but was eventually lost in the shuffle. It seems Big E wanted a match against Goldberg recently as well.

While Big E is certainly one of the most positive people in the company, even he isn’t immune to suffering from crushing lows during his career which made him feel lost.

Many fans were simply tired of seeing Goldberg despite his limited time on WWE television. On the other hand, Big E previously made it clear that he is the right person to retire Goldberg.

While speaking to Sportsnet, Big E stated that he talked to WWE management regarding a match against Goldberg at WWE Crown Jewel. Big E added that Goldberg was his childhood hero as well.

“We’ve been in a top act in many ways (with the New Day) but there are so many singles matchups out there that are fresh for me. I was trying to make some noise for this Goldberg match at Crown Jewel, but that clearly (didn’t happen). It would have been really full circle. He was my childhood hero and idol, and I’ve spoken effusively about that.”

Big E successfully retained his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at WWE Crown Jewel instead. With Goldberg only having one more match left in his contract, it remains to be seen whether he will face off against Big E or not in the future.
