WWE released quite a few Superstars and members of staff since April of this year. The company previously released 14 Superstars from NXT and 205 Live and that included one of the mainstays of 205 Live, Tony Nese. Nese already commented on his release, stating that he can’t wait to work elsewhere. It seens Tony Nese almost quit pro wrestling as well.
As reported earlier, Tony Nese had signed a contract with AEW recently. However, that fact was not confirmed back then. Finally, Tony Nese himself confirmed that he signed a deal with the company recently.a
Prior to signing with AEW, Tony Nese spent the majority of his time on 205 Live. He also made infrequent appearances on the main roster. Unfortunately Nese was simply underutilized in WWE.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Tony Nese talked about a time before his run in WWE. Nese revealed that he almost quit pro wrestling because nothing was happening in regards to even making it there.
Nothing was happening with WWE, so I was frustrated. I started talking to my wife and said this will be my last 2 to 3 years. It looked like I was going to be a personal trainer for the rest of my life. My wife said ‘I would rather live in a cardboard box than have you give up on your dream.’
That was when I decided I would be with this girl for the rest of my life, but also it sparked me. I did one more push, this time with a whole new attitude. I reached out and got a spot as an extra in Buffalo in October. Scott Armstrong watched my try-out matches and said ‘If it was up to me, I would send you to Florida tomorrow. But it’s not up to me…’ I said ‘Can I tell people you said that?’ He said ‘Yeah, absolutely.’ I hit up everyone and said that to them, that’s when they emailed me back and said could I do a try-out in January. It all just turned around from there.”
Tony Nese also recently revealed that he still had one year left in his WWE contract before his release. Nese has already made his in-ring debut during the latest AEW Dark tapings. On top of that, he even hinted at squaring off against Adam Cole. Now that he is officially part of the roster, we will have to wait and see who Nese will feud against first.
