Jon Moxley used to work in WWE from 2012 to 2019, where he was known as Dean Ambrose. Being in WWE for so long will help you lose touch of the outside pro wrestling world. Ambrose had a tremendous career in WWE where he won several titles but ultimately left the company after frustrations with his booking. It seems he had no idea about AEW after leaving WWE.

Jon Moxley made his debut at AEW Double Or Nothing 2019 and since then he’s had a terrific time in AEW, becoming the AEW World Champion and being involved in high-profile matches. It was also said that he changed as a person after leaving WWE.

AEW has certainly grown in many areas since its debut back in 2019. Jon Moxley was there right from the beginning, as he was determined to be one of the foundations of the company.

While speaking Wrestling Observer Radio, Jon Moxley talked about parting ways with WWE. Moxley admitted that he had no idea what AEW was after leaving WWE. When Chris Jericho told him about it, Moxley thought it was just another indie promotion.

“I didn’t know if AEW existed. I was already out the door. The crazy thing about it is it was just timing. A big thing people probably don’t know or understand is that it wasn’t a super easy decision to go to AEW. It was not easy at all. It was actually very scary to go to AEW. But the timing of it was so crazy, that it was almost like I didn’t choose this. The universe chose me. I would be a pu**y if I didn’t take this opportunity.

I didn’t know Tony. I met Tony a few weeks before Double or Nothing. Jericho was a big help. He was the first guy I talked to about it because, honestly, I heard a little bit about this AEW thing. There’s all these like IMPACT, AEW, PWG, all these three letter companies. So AEW, whatever, I didn’t think it was a big deal. I just thought it was like an indie.”

Jon Moxley is certainly having the time of his life in AEW and it is certain he is glad to leave WWE as Moxley was able to expand his horizons and compete the way he wanted to. He is currently in the AEW World Title Elimination tournament and we wonder if he will be able to win the whole thing or not.
