Earlier this year, the Undertaker made an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, where he made some comments that stirred the pot. The former WWE star criticized wrestlers who play video games backstage.
The Undertaker also stated that he believes modern wrestlers are “soft” compared to the previous generations. While these are certainly controversial statements, former WWE Superstar TJP believes that there might be some truth to what the Undertaker said. While talking to Generation Of Wrestling Podcast, TJP spoke his mind on the matter.
I’m absolutely not like the alpha type of person, especially not when I think about wrestling. And I’m not the type of wrestler, especially not the type of old school wrestler that says stuff like, ‘It’s not ballet, kid.’ I think that’s a little archaic and a little stupid. Nothing screams more ‘I’m a tough guy’ than saying some cr*p like that. But I will say I do think there’s a lot of validity to what The Undertaker is saying. I think it’s a cultural thing, it’s not just physical toughness. A lot of it’s mental toughness. It’s a little bit of both.
TJP shared these thoughts on the “Generation of Wrestling” podcast, where he conceded that wrestlers today are not as tough as they used to be.
TJP himself is an avid gamer, and even used a retro video game-inspired entrance during his time in WWE between 2016 and 2019. He also recalled how wrestlers were criticized for playing video games when he was with WWE.
It certainly seems toxic to criticize wrestlers for enjoying a harmless hobby. It’s great that TJP can analyze the Undertaker’s comments with nuance, and find the valid points he made. Check out the interview below.
