Jimmy Wang Yang has had an interesting career in the pro wrestling business. Vince McMahon once re-hired Yang without even knowing he’d fired him. He also raised a second-generation wrestler in his daughter, Jazzy.
Now, Jimmy Yang (real name James Yun) is back with WWE in a new role. The veteran wrestler started working for the company as a producer on Raw this week, according to Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
“Producer” is the WWE’s term for a road agent. Their job duties include planning out matches and spots with the wrestlers, helping with promos, and generally give guidance on how a particular match, angle, or promo should go.
Yang first became known nationally in WCW. He is a graduate of the vaunted WCW Power Plant which also produced Goldberg and the Big Show. He signed with the company in 1999. His first big break came as a member of the Jung Dragons with Jamie Noble and Kaz Hayashi. He remained with the company until it was purchased by WWE.
Yang was sent to developmental after the purchase but was released in early 2002. He returned for several short WWE runs over the years. Yang also had stints in Impact, All Japan Pro Wrestling, several independent promotions.
Jimmy Yang celebrated his 40th birthday in May. It looks like he’s got a nice belated present. We wish Jimmy the bet of luck in the new role. Congratulations to Jimmy Wang Yang on the new gig in WWE!
