WWE released quite a few Superstars and members of staff since April of this year. The company previously released 14 Superstars from NXT and 205 Live and that included one of the mainstays of 205 Live, Tony Nese. Nese already commented on his release, stating that he can’t wait to work elsewhere. It seems Vince McMahon had a hilarious idea about Nese’s ring gear in WWE.
As reported earlier, Tony Nese had signed a contract with AEW recently. However, that fact was not confirmed back then. Finally, Tony Nese himself confirmed that he signed a deal with the company recently.
Prior to signing with AEW, Tony Nese spent the majority of his time on 205 Live. Due to that, he could never give layers to his character, despite being excellent inside the squared circle.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Tony Nese claimed that he immediately changed up his in-ring gear in WWE because of Vince McMahon. Vince McMahon apparently thought Nese was wearing a bra, which led Nese to throw the gear in the garbage.
“So the premiere athlete is still going to be who I am and what I represent. But I do want it to be a little bit more of a serious thing rather than ‘Hey look at my abs.’ I love being booed and flexing. At the same time, I changed up my look to where I am wearing more branded stuff.
In WWE, I was just trying to pop by getting gear that just looked good. I wore a jacket because they told me I needed something up top. They said ‘You should wear something, but don’t cover up anything.’ For one show I wore a He-Man type thing, but nobody thought it looked cool. In fact, Vince said ‘Is he wearing a bra out there?’ Straight after I heard that, I threw it into the trash. But now, I think this is getting old and it doesn not represent me, I want to be taken more seriously. I want to be my own brand, that’s the attitude I’m going in with. I still will be kissing my biceps and flexing though.”
Tony Nese also recently revealed that he still had one year left in his WWE contract before his release. Nese has already made his in-ring debut during the latest AEW Dark tapings. On top of that, he even hinted at squaring off against Adam Cole. Now that he is officially part of the roster, we will have to wait and see who Nese will feud against first.
