The Elite had some fun with a Ghostbusters-themed Halloween theme this week on Dynamite. The internet was split on their opinions of the whole thing. Interestingly, the original plan wasn’t for the group to dress up as Ghostbusters.
According to Fightful Select, the initial plan was to do a Squid Game-style entrance. Officials from either WarnerMedia or TNT shot down the idea when they heard of the plan.
It is thought that the execs who made the call to pull the plug weren’t fully aware that the bit was supposed to be a parody. Once the change was made, Mikey Rukus was called into action and knocked out a new theme for The Elite in under two hours. Rukus shared the hectic timeline on Twitter.
“Got the call at 5:30- ‘we need a ghostbusters type track’ Stuck in Traffic til 6:15pm Started producing at 6:28 Computer froze at 7:18 Lost 30 minutes of progress Didn’t panic- reworked, mixed Delivered at 8:03pm I Fkn love my job.”
In the memorable main event, The Elite took on the Dark Order in an 8-man tag match. “Hangman” Adam Page dressed as the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and pretended to be Brandon Cutler. The whole thing ended in a ridiculous double cross with the Dark Order standing tall.
Imagine what the original idea for a Squid Game entrance could’ve looked like. We’ll never know, but fans seemed happy with what they got. It was a fun segment. Jim Cornette won’t like it, but he’s not part of the target demo.
