Jay and Mark Briscoe have spent most of their time lately in Game Changer Wrestling. The tag team has found themselves without a main home now that Ring of Honor has released the entire roster.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about the Briscoe’s chances of finding work in WWE. He gives the brothers more of a fighting chance than one might expect. That being said, a homophobic social media post in 2013 kept them from WWE and AEW in the past, and it’s unknown if people are over it.
“I don’t think WWE would take The Briscoes, perhaps they would at this point. They wouldn’t years ago, because Jay Briscoe once tweeted a homophobic remark, very homophobic remark which wouldn’t be a good thing, but I don’t know if you hold that against him for the rest of his life.”
Meltzer is referring to a homophobic tweet made by Jay Briscoe that many thought made them toxic throughout the mainstream wrestling companies. It sounds like things may have changed now.
The Briscoes were surrounded by rumors about them showing up in AEW closer to the start of that promotion. The team never did sign (or were never offered in the first place) and opted instead to stick with Ring of Honor. To this point, no contract from a major company has come along.
The Briscoe Brothers are one of the most decorated tag teams in the history of ROH. Jay is a two-time ROH World champion. As a duo, they’ve won the tag titles 11 times. Over the summer, they feuded with each other in the promotion.
