Daniel Garcia recently joined AEW and he’s been in one high-profile match after another. The wrestler also made an appearance on the “One one One with Jon Alba” podcast, where he reflected upon other offers he considered and rejected before signing on with AEW.
Garcia claimed that he had received a variety of offers over the past year or so, but he wanted to join a promotion where he could “instantly be a top player.” Garcia also explained that his mother has given him very good intuitions when it comes to making these decisions.
You’ve always got to bet on yourself, I never wanted to be the guy that signed somewhere just to say that I got the contract. I don’t want to go somewhere and be a body, I don’t want to go somewhere that doesn’t have a plan for me. I had opportunities at a bunch of places but the timing just didn’t feel right, I can’t explain it.
Garcia is not entirely a fresh face at AEW, having appeared in several AEW Dark tapings prior to signing on officially. After AEW Dark, Garcia was offered the opportunity to work on AEW Dynamite as well.
Garcia also had high praise for his tag team partners, 2point0, saying “they’re veterans that have experience at every different level of professional wrestling.”
Finally, Garcia addressed complaints that he has no personality, saying that “anybody who thinks he doesn’t have any personality will not be thinking that in the near future.” Check out a clip from the interview below.
