Following WWE’s Crown Jewel PPV yesterday, tonight’s SmackDown is being advertised as the start of a new era. With tonight being the first SmackDown with the 2021 draft brand changes in effect, SmackDown will see many new members of the roster appear tonight.

It should be interesting to see how things play out on tonight’s show.

SmackDown

SmackDown begins with a recap video from Crown Jewel. The show kicks off live in Wichita, Kansas with Universal Champion Roman Reigns making his way out to the ring with Paul Heyman by his side. Reigns gets on the mic and asks Heyman if he’s holding the title belt for him or for Brock. Reigns makes Heyman hand him the title in the ring while saying that Heyman isn’t great at his job, but he is. Reigns says that there’s no denying that he’s the best of the best, and that he has carried WWE on his back for over a year and a half now. Reigns calls himself the greatest Universal Champion of all time. Reigns runs down the opponents he has defeated recently starting with Daniel Bryan and Edge and going all the way to Brock Lesnar. Reigns asks Heyman what Lesnar said about SmackDown this week, Heyman quotes Lesnar saying the moment he arrives to SmackDown he will beat Reigns senseless. Reings laughs and slaps Heyman’s phone out of his hand. Reigns talks to Lesnar and says that this is his show, and that he’s not going anywhere and that he doesn’t mind smashing Lesnar two nights in a row. Reigns says that Lesnar must be scared of him and that he is not leaving the ring until Lesnar comes out.

*Commercial break*

SmackDown returns with Reigns still in the ring. Reigns says he can’t blame Lesnar for being afraid of Reigns. Reigns says he has given the people far too much of his time. Reigns holds up the mic as the fans chant ‘we want Lesnar”. Reigns says he also wants Lesnar, but Lesnar is scared of him. Finally, Lesnar’s music hits and Lesnar comes out. Heyman steps out of the ring as Lesnar makes his way down the ramp. Lesnar runs in the ring and knocks Reigns out of the ring with a lariat. Lesnar chases Reigns and Reigns begins to fight back before Lesnar throws Reigns into the stairs. Lesnar hits Reigns with the stairs and throws the stairs in the ring. Lesnar clears the announce table and picks up Reigns for an F5, The Usos run in to save Reigns and Lesnar takes out both Usos. Reigns takes advantage to attack Lesnar but Lesnar slams Reigns into the ring post. Lesnar takes a camera and throws it but Reigns dodges. lesnar throws referees and officials away as Adam Pearce sends out reinforcements. Lesnar proceeds to take out the majority of the mid card before Reigns and The Usos escape. However, Lesnar stands in the ring in possession of the Universal Championship belt.

*Commercial break*

SmackDown returns with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee standing in front of a broken announce table and destroyed ringside area. Adam Pearce gets on the mic and says that Lesnar’s actions were irresponsible and unacceptable. Pearce says he cannot allow this to happen, and therefore Pearce is indefinitely suspending Brock Lesnar. Lesnar walks back out to the ring. Lesnar enters the ring as Pearce tries to reason with him. Lesnar grabs Pearce by the throat and asks Pearce to repeat what he said. Pearce begrudgingly says he’s suspending Lesnar. Lesnar proceeds to F5 Pearce, before picking him up off the mat and hitting a second F5. Lesnar grabs a mic and asks Pearce to repeat himself again before slamming the mic off Pearce’s head and leaving the ring.

*Commercial break*

Sonya Deville is seen backstage on the phone. Naomi interrupts Deville and says she has unfinished business and demands a one on one match with Deville. Deville says she has more important things to deal with. Naomi leaves and new SmackDown superstar Drew McIntyre shows up and tells Deville he’s going out to the ring and issuing an open challenge.

Drew McIntyre comes out to the ring for the first time as a new member of the SmackDown roster. McIntyre officially announces his open challenge. Answering McIntyre’s open challenge is Sami Zayn, who on the mic says he is the longest tenured member of the SmackDown roster and he’s a locker room leader. Zayn says that as McIntyre is looking for someone brave enough to accept his challenge, Zayn is the best superstar on SmackDown and he accepts the challenge.

The match begins with Zayn immediately leaving the ring. McIntyre chases him around McIntyre throws Zayn into the barricade.

*Commercial break*

The match continues live with Zayn stomping McIntyre on the mat. Zayn makes a cover for a two count. Zayn tries two more covers for one counts. McIntyre slams Zayn into the corner and hits a belly to belly suplex to send Zayn across the ring. McIntyre hits a neck breaker and goes into the corner but Zayn rolls out of the way of a Claymore. Zayn slams McIntyre off the ropes and tries for the blue thunder bomb but McIntyre escapes. McIntyre charges to the corner but Zayn dodges and McIntyre runs into the ring post shoulder-first. Zayn does a countdown in the corner and runs for the Helluva kick but McIntyre catches him with a Claymore and McIntyre covers for three.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

The ring crew sets up the ring with a throne as the coronation ceremony is set for King of the Ring winner Xavier Woods. Kofi Kingston makes his way out to the ring as the coronation is set for after the commercial break.

*Commercial break*

SmackDown returns with Kofi Kingston in the ring. Kingston says we are gathered here today for the grandest of coronations. Kingston introduces the new King of the Ring, King Xavier Woods. Xavier Woods makes his way to the ring. Kingston presents Woods with the king’s cloak and scepter and then Kingston places the crown on Woods. Kingston hands Woods the mic and Woods says the fans helped turn his dream into a reality, Woods says he reign will be fun but also fair, and Kingston leads a “hail King Woods” chant.

Becky Lynch is shown backstage where she says that she never lost the Raw Women’s Championship, and instead of a title change, Becky two Belts should make a comeback.

Mansoor vs Mustafa Ali

The match begins with Mansoor avoiding a drop kick from Ali. Mansoor hits a back body drop and throws Ali over the top rope. Mansoor hits a flying cross body off the top rope and covers for two. Ali hits a powerbomb into a cover for two. Mansoor hits a lariat and charges to the corner but is hit with a big boot from Ali. Mansoor gets a quick roll up for the three count.

Winner: Mansoor

Hit Row makes their official SmackDown debut as the group walks out. The group introduces their individual members as they rap their way to the ring.

*Commercial break*

Hit Row debut in a tag match against local competitors. Top Dolla carries both opponents and slams them both at once. Swerve is tagged in and they hit a double team slam and Swerve covers for three.

Winners: Hit Row

Sonya Deville is interviewed backstage. She provides a medical update on Adam Pearce and reveals he will be out for the rest of the show and Deville will have control for the rest of the night.

Rick Boogs is on stage as he introduces Shinsuke Nakamura as Pat McAfee expresses great enjoyment for Rick Boogs.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Happy Corbin

The match begins with a lock up. Corbin hits a strong right hand. Nakamura hits a knee to the mid section and then a sliding dropkick. Nakamura hits a series to kicks to Corbin and then stomps Corbin in the corner. Corbin slams Nakamura from the apron to the floor outside the ring.

*Commercial break*

The match continues with Corbin hitting a lariat and covering for a two count. Nakamura hits a running drop kick to Corbin. Nakamura hits the knee with Corbin on the top ropes. Corbin catches Nakamura attempting the Kinshasa and slams Nakamura to the mat. Nakamura hits a spinning kick. Madcap Moss distracts Nakamura and Corbin slams Nakamura into the stairs. Back in the ring Corbin hits the end of days and covers for three.

Winner: Happy Corbin

Becky Lynch makes her way out to the ring for the Women’s Championship title exchange.

Back live with SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch in the ring with Sonya Deville. Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair makes her way out to the ring. Deville tells the two champions that they are here to exchange the championships and go to their respective brands after. Flair takes her belt from her waist and Lynch slaps it out of her hand. Flair picks it up and Lynch takes it and throws her title belt to the ground. Flair challenges Lynch to a winner takes all match tonight. Sasha Banks makes her way out to the ring. Banks says that she runs SmackDown. Flair asks Banks if she felt left out, Lynch says she’s going to Raw while Flair and Banks work this out, and that she’ll see one of them at Survivor Series. Banks says she’s the star of any show she’s on. Banks and Flair break out into a brawl in the ring. Flair is able to break free and escape to the outside. Banks hits a meteora outside and Deville runs back to separate the two as SmackDown goes off the air.
