Mustafa Ali has been working in WWE for quite a long time now and remains one of the most talented in-ring competitors in the entire company. He is also the former leader of Retribution. It seems Vince McMahon didn’t believe in him at first from the looks of it.
Mustafa Ali’s current program in WWE sees him involved in a feud/mentorship with Mansoor on Monday Night RAW. Mansoor did not have any say in the relationship whatsoever.
While speaking with Metro, Mustafa Ali talked about his career in WWE. Ali recalled the time he walked into Vince McMahon’s office and asked McMahon what was missing in his character. McMahon told him that Ali simply didn’t have it in him to be a star.
Even pre-pandemic, I was struggling to maintain television presence – and I know it was all character based. When you pitch a million and one ideas as far as stories, characters, promos, this and that – and you always get told that you’re good, but then nothing happens – you start pointing the finger at everybody except for you.
After sitting at home for seven months and then finally coming back to Monday Night Raw, only to pick up a few victories and then to go back to not being on Monday Night Raw and now being stuck on Main Event, you’re kinda scratching your head.
Like, what have I gotta do? And then you realize, you’ve gotta go ask the hard questions. I went up to Vince McMahon himself and said, ‘What am I missing?’ [He said], ‘Too polished, too clean, too nice, I don’t know if you have it in you!’”
Mustafa Ali is set to square off against Mansoor at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on October 21st. It remains to be seen whether Mustafa Ali will be able to defeat Mansoor or not at the event.
