AEW recently tweeted from their official merchandise account that they would be raising money for breast cancer awareness with new special t-shirts and sweatshirts. Charity is generally a good thing. They also said that they would be raising money for Susan G. Komen. According to fan reaction to the post, that’s bad.

Fans flooded the @shopAEW Twitter replies after the post was made shortly before 11:30 this morning. They were universally negative. Fans also posted screenshots of a 2015 CM Punk tweet in which the Second City Saint called Komen a scam.

“If you’re going to give money to a company that claims to raise money for finding a cure for cancer, please do some research.Komen is a scam.”

The tweet came at a time when CM Punk was retired from professional wrestling. It was one of the few references he made to wrestling at all during the time. Now, fans are reminding AEW of Punk’s previous criticisms of Komen.

After seeing the fan backlash, Punk posted a cryptic tweet of his own. The post contained a GIF that was captioned, ‘We’re working on it.’ Replies for the tweet were disabled.

There’s no way to be sure right now that CM Punk’s tweet was referring to the Komen tweet. If AEW makes a statement or announces a different partnership, we will know with certainty.

AEW has apparently deleted their post about the new line of merchandise after the backlash.

Do you think CM Punk is talking to Tony Khan about AEW’s relationship with Komen? Share your thoughts in the comments!
