WWE is wrapping up their SuperShow live event era. It appears as though the company is sending their old house show format out with a bang. At the WWE live event in El Paso, TX on Sunday, Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox wrestled against Tamina and Natalia as heels.
Video of the match has surfaced online. Nox was recently drafted to the Raw Brand. Blackheart is staying on SmackDown. They’re one of the teams that was split up in the recent WWE draft.
There is precedent for WWE doing major angles and title changes at house shows in the past. Sometimes it is done because a major player in a storyline is leaving the company. Occassionally, the promotion uses house shows to test crowd reactions to different ideas.
In a fan-recorded video from the event, Nox seemed to really ham up her new role for the crowd. It remains to be seen if the team will be reunited on television any time soon. The women’s tag team division could use a good heel team to eventually groom into a role similar to the IIconics.
Nox and Blackheart defeated Natalia and Tamina in their matchup. Elsewhere on the show, Damian Priest defeated Jinder Mahal to retain the US title, RK-Bro defended their championships against The New Day, the Mysterios, Boogs, and Nakamura beat The Dirty Dawgs, Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins, Charlotte defended her title in a four-way, and Roman Reigns and the Usos defeated Finn Balor and the Street Profits in a six-man tag.
WWE will change over to brand-specific house shows starting at the end of December. Nox and Blackheart may have a heel run on the live events leading up to it to gauge fan reaction to their heel turn. If they show up on the same show together, you’ll know WWE thought it worked.
