CM Punk left WWE back in 2014 after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view and since then he vowed never to step foot inside a pro wrestling ring ever again. Of course, he broke his promise as Punk debuted on AEW Rampage: The First Dance. He was in talks with AEW for quite a long time too. It seems there is a very good reason for Punk competing on AEW Rampage.

Punk himself absolutely loved his AEW debut and he has singlehandedly became the most talked-about pro wrestler on the planet right now, much to the delight of Mick Foley.

CM Punk has competed in several matches on AEW Rampage since his debut, and most of them have been well received by fans and critics alike. However, he isn’t competing on AEW Dynamite and this made many fans wonder what the reason was.

While speaking to the New York Post, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about Punk only wrestling on AEW Rampage so far and not AEW Dynamite. Khan revealed that it was due to CM Punk helping bring more viewers to AEW Rampage.

He’s given a great lift. When he’s wrestled they’ve been the high quarter hours (ratings) and his appearances have helped lift the audience and we’ve seen on Friday nights that people do want to see him, even this past week when there was great competition from baseball.

Tony Khan didn’t specifically state if fans will see CM Punk wrestle on AEW Dynamite as well. However, it is likely the Second City Saint will compete on AEW Dynamite, but it might not be in the near future.
