Cody Rhodes is the EVP of AEW and has remained a babyface in the company since the very beginning. Rhodes‘ is one of the top stars in the company, as he has competed in several memorable matches and praise-worthy segments over the years. The American Nightmare also has a unique way with words, something else he likely got from his legendary father, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.

AEW held their highly anticipated Grand Slam event last month and Arthur Ashe Stadium was certainly a night to remember for fans and pro wrestlers alike. It also saw the return of Brandi Rhodes to AEW television. Cody Rhodes’ first match in well over a month saw him face off against Malakai Black. While Cody Rhodes was the babyface, he received a lot of boos from the crowd in New York City as fans simply didn’t want to have anything to do with him.

While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Cody Rhodes was asked how he felt about fans booing him. Rhodes then went on to make a bizarre comparison between himself and Woody from the Toy Story film franchise.

“Okay, I will use a real modern-day example as everyone has seen the filmToy Story. So, Woody was having a hell of a time, he was getting played with every day, he was the best toy. But then Buzz Lightyear shows up. Woody gets thrown in the toy box. If you’re wondering how I feel, take a look at how Woody felt in the very first Toy Story because that, to a degree, has been my role lately.

However, with that said and my pettiness aside, I’ve been doing this since I was 15 years old. That education is invaluable in terms of me not panicking, and in terms of also me savoring this moment. I have never had a run like this in my career where everything was happening so much at once – personally and professionally, and so I want to ride the wave. I want to look back at it and enjoy it; but yes, if anyone wants to know perhaps how I feel, I identify with Woody from Toy Story, if that makes any sense. That’s where I’m at with it.

Cody Rhodes previously made it clear that he will retire before turning heel in AEW. Now it remains to be seen if Cody Rhodes truly will remain a face for his entire career or finally become a heel or not.
