Shawn Michaels Has A New Special Project In WWE NXT

Shawn Michaels has been out of the ring for many years. However, he still had talents throughout the years whom he helped build and cement over the years. While AEW’s Adam Cole was his last project, Michaels had set eyes on another talent for WWE.

Fightful Select reports that Shawn Michaels is interested in another developmental project. Namely Carmelo Hayes had impressed many at the WWE Performance Center, and went on to become a “Shawn Michaels’ project.”

Carmelo Hayes has impressed some people of influence within NXT and the Performance Center. We’re told by WWE Performance Center sources that Carmelo Hayes specifically caught the eye of Shawn Michaels, and was viewed as a “project” of his by many.

Hayes was already favored by many. However, his matches with Kushida and subsequently with Adam Cole lead to the interest that Michaels developed in him.

Hayes had already impressed many, but a match with Kushida in early June opened up a lot of opportunities for him, including the follow-up match with Adam Cole. Another high level NXT source said that they believe Shawn Michaels sees a lot of himself in Carmelo Hayes, which seems to be backed up by Shawn Michaels taking a celebratory photo with Hayes following his NXT North American Title victory.

Michaels recently reacted to Hayes’ North American Title win. Many superstars from WWE credit Shawn Michaels for helping his career, including former WWE superstar Ryback.
