After one of the hottest babyface runs in the history of WWE, Becky Lynch took time off for another of her ambitions, motherhood. Relinquishing the Raw Women’s title to Asuka on the May 11, 2020 edition of Raw, Lynch walked away as the top draw and main event for a company that was overflowing with talent. The wrestling world reacted with a great deal of support for “The Man” and her partner, Seth Rollins.

Becky appeared on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character podcast recently and opened up about her time off and the reflections she made during her time away. She knew she’d be giving up the top spot, but Lynch saw this as a challenge.

“Sometimes, I think I’m a glutton for punishment because I love a challenge. Stepping away, I knew that I’d be losing my top spot, so it was a challenge. I envision everything as a Rocky montage, right? Coming back…how can this be a Rocky movie? I like that challenge of going away, being away for a year and a half, and then coming back and wondering if I could still be able to go and if I still wanted to go. If everything was going to change and maybe I would just want to be at home. I didn’t know. I didn’t know how anything was going to go, but it genuinely made me hungrier.”

While she saw her comeback as a major challenge, Becky admitted that she wasn’t 100% sure it was one she was going to accept. Lynch said it was nearly a 50/50 decision about whether she wanted to return to the ring and the road or to stay home and raise her child.

“I was probably 60%,” she told Satin. “I was going to come back, but there is that 40%. I don’t know how I’m going to be as a mother. I know how I am as a single woman with no other real priority, but as a mom and as a person in charge of a tiny being, I didn’t know how I was going to be and if it was going to change me so much that I would be like, ‘You know what, maybe I just want to be at home now.’ I do not want to be at home.”

Becky Lynch returned at WWE SummerSlam 2021, shocking fans with a surprise appearance and a title victory over Bianca Belair. The hotshotted booking left a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans. Lynch defends her championship on a loaded WWE Smackdown this Friday on FS1.
