WWE has many different partners that they must consider when making any decision. There is also a chance that those parties might have other interests that could get in the way of different WWE partners. This seems to have been the case around SummerSlam.
Peacock is owned by NBCU and the paid a ton of money for WWE programming. In fact, Fightful Select ran a piece about how WWE blocked Tubi, Fox’s streaming platform, from airing MLW. This is an even more complicated situation as it was also reported that Peacock interfered with how USA Network and FOX could cover SummerSlam.
It was mentioned by Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast that Peacock did not permit Fox or USA Network’s social media to post SummerSlam videos. They were limited to animated gifs instead.
Despite perceived coexistence between Peacock and USA Network we’re told by Mat Men’s Andrew Zarian that Peacock did not permit Fox or USA Network’s social media to post videos from Summerslam. Instead, the platforms were limited to GIFs.
This is a very interesting point to consider, because there was a lack of videos for the biggest party of the summer. We’ll pay close attention to that social media activity from now on, because it can apparently be a telling factor about things going on behind the scenes as well.
