AEW opened their doors and WWE didn’t give them that much credit starting out. They sent them a congralatory message after the first episode of Dynamite, but then they reminded the new company that it is a marathon and not a sprint. Tony Khan’s company picked up a lot of ground in that race.
During the Monday Mailbag podcast on AdFreeShows, Mike Chioda spoke about AEW’s momentum. He also provided insight into what Vince McMahon is likely thinking at a time like this. According to the former WWE referee, McMahon is sweating this new threat from AEW a bit.
“Yes, I think he is. He always wants to be on top. I have seen him demolish and step on a lot of territories around the country and around the world. He wants to be #1. Everybody wants to be #1 whether it’s in their sport, in their career, or owning a company. I definitely think he’s very concerned right now because they’re picking up some good talent. I know Vince. Vince is concerned.”
“AEW’s ratings are going up. People are interested. I’m interested in watching AEW. They’re selling out arenas. The energy in the crowd is just phenomenal now. They went from one show to two shows now. Everybody is talking AEW.”
We’ll have to see what’s in the future for AEW and WWE. The two companies are certainly in the same industry, but WWE will continue on with their blinders on. That doesn’t mean they don’t notice AEW catching up with them; something that Tony Khan is very pleased about.
