Maria Kanellis and Mike Bennett were released by WWE in April 2020 as part of the COVID-19 budget cuts. Both of them eventually returned to ROH. Maria Kanellis was also grateful to WWE for providing them with an opportunity to work for the company.

Maria returned to WWE back in 2017 as she and her husband Mike Bennett signed contracts together. Unfortunately, they were never utilized well in the company and ultimately floundered until their release last year.

While speaking to the Battleground Podcast, Maria Kanellis was asked about making a return to the squared circle in ROH and Kanellis made it clear she has no intention of doing that anytime soon.

”Probably not. I’m not in that place right now. I was asked a ton while the tournament was going on (ROH Women of Honor tournament), and even after I was released from WWE to get back out there and wrestle. I don’t know why anybody wants to see me wrestle, but they do. I’ve been asked a lot.

I want the focus to remain on the division, and I just don’t think now’s the time for that. As soon as you start wrestling again, people are like,‘When are you going to get the title?’ That muddies the water too much. No thank you. I’m all set.”

Maria Kanellis is content working in ROH right now but she’ll always be grateful for her time in WWE. However, it is unlikely she’ll return to the company anytime soon.
