Christian made his return during the Royal Rumble match after a seven-year-long hiatus from the squared circle. However, he was not seen on WWE television after that. Ultimately, Christian chose to go to AEW as he came to be known as Christian Cage.
Since then, Cage has remained one of the mainstays of AEW and also Impact Wrestling as he is the Impact World Champion.
Throughout his career in WWE, Christian was always seen as the weaker half of his team with Edge. Edge ultimately became one of the most accomplished WWE Superstars in the history of the company. While Christian was successful, he never reached the heights Edge did.
While speaking during the latest Grilling JR Podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross talked about what Christian lacked in terms of charisma compared to Edge and how Edge always had a leg up compared to Christian in WWE.
“I always thought Edge was going to be a breakout star because he connected with the audience. [Christian] was always the clear number two on that team. I was glad they both got their opportunity to grow on their own, but I always thought that Edge had a little bit of a leg up in that scenario. That does not mean by any stretch of the imagination that Christian wasn’t a great hand. The match that he had with Kenny Omega in AEW was outstanding. He still is a hell of a worker, he’s always been a hell of a worker, but he just didn’t quite have that connectable charisma that Edge had. It’s not a knock on Christian whatsoever, just [Edge] had a specialness about him and I’m happy he’s back in the game at a schedule he can manage and take care of his health.”
Christian Cage is certainly happy working in AEW and he wouldn’t have it any other way from the looks of it as well.
