Chris Kanyon was the subject of this week’s Dark Side of the Ring and Ric Flair got off easy this week. It turns out that his surprise call-in during Kanyon’s Howard Stern Show appearance wasn’t the most damning portion of that segment. John Cena’s time on Stern was highlighted and fans are a bit upset about what he said.
Kanyon trended on social media as fans discussed his life story. John Cena was also dragged into the conversation because he said on Howard Stern that Kanyon “wasn’t any good.” Many fans took exception to those comments from Cena as he obviously fell in line with WWE’s narrative.
Fans are upset with John Cena and some are calling for him to be “cancelled.” As you can see from the graphic below, Cena’s name was trending right alongside Chris Kanyon’s name, even though Kanyon was the actual star of the episode.
Some fans called to cancel John Cena over the comments he made about Kanyon. Others are coming to Cena’s defense. Either way, it still caused his name to rocket up the trending lists on Twitter as fans waged this debate.
“So correct me if I’m mistaken, but John Cena is getting “cancelled” for saying someone isn’t good at wrestling?” one supportive fan questioned. That didn’t stop tons of fans from calling for Cena’s cancellation.
John Cena is ingrained in pop culture at this point. He also said a lot of things during that Howard Stern appearance that might come off as unsavory today. Fans certainly didn’t appreciate seeing what he had to say about Kanyon during an episode of Dark Side of the Ring that highlighted his tragic life.
