WWE released a lot of people from their contracts in recent memory, and Buddy Murphy is just starting his time on the indies. Rumor is that Impact Wrestling will bring Murphy in, and that would make sense. Scott D’Amore also kind of gave that plan away. It also appears that AEW passed up on signing the former WWE Superstar.
Tony Khan’s company can’t sign everyone to a contract, but many fans were wondering how AEW might utilize Matthews. It doesn’t appear that they will get that opportunity now.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer brought up the fact that AEW is signing some former WWE Superstars. Gran Metalik’s WWE release request brought this into the conversation. When it comes to Buddy Matthews, it appears that AEW has already decided against it.
They’ve passed on a lot of people. It looks like they passed on Murphy who is obviously a great, great wrestler.
We’ll have to see what Buddy Matthews does next, because he is in fantastic shape and could benefit any roster he is a part of. The former Murphy is also hungry to prove what he can do outside of Vince McMahon’s walls.
Even if Murphy inks a deal with Impact Wrestling instead, nothing says that he can’t end up on AEW programming eventually thanks to the Forbidden Door.
