WWE released a lot of people this year, but they didn’t let the word get out about those firings until after it was too late. We previously reported that Triple H had zero idea about the cuts to NXT until they were handed down, and he was not alone.
While speaking to Fightful, former NXT Superstar Alex Zayne revealed that he called William Regal about his release after Johnny Ace gave him the information via telephone call. Regal had no idea cuts were coming down which is interesting information for a scout not to have.
Word of the releases emerged about a half hour to an hour after the talent was released, so Regal would not have got the talent relations notification of the releases by then. It appears Regal, as scout and on-screen general manager for NXT, was not informed that the releases were coming before they weren’t.
All NXT Superstars have a 30-day non-compete clause. WWE main roster Superstars have a 90-day non-compete clause. There was a clerical error in Aleister Black’s WWE contract which is what allowed him to appear in AEW as Malakai Black just 35 days after his release.
