WWE has an issue with losing Superstars due to contract issues. They have also released several of them, but a number of NXT Superstars decided against re-upping their deals in 2019 when the company was throwing around a lot of money.
Adam Cole’s WWE contract already expired and Johnny Gargano’s deal is set to expire in December. Both of those Superstars were among several who turned own extended contract offers.
According to a report from Fightful Select, “several NXT” Superstars passed on new contracts in 2019, Johnny Gargano being one of them. This was around the time that NXT premiered on the USA Network.
The company was in a major re-signing mode across all brands. Dozens of wrestlers either re-signed or restructured their contracts when WWE landed some of their most important television deals ever.
It was reported that “there wasn’t much incentive for top NXT talent to re-sign” at the rates they were offered. Those contracts were “nowhere near” the dollar amounts of RAW and SmackDown Superstars.
There is a different payout structure in NXT with the wrestlers. Adam Cole was another Superstar who decided not to take WWE’s offer for a new deal during that time as well.
