Kevin Owens’ WWE contract is running up on January 31st, 2022 and that news broke the week that his segment was pulled from WWE’s return to Madison Square Garden. Ringside News previously reported that Owens and Happy Corbin’s segment along with the women’s tag team match were pulled due to timing issues.
Owens has not spoken to AEW, because that would be contract tampering. At this point it is simply too early to know what he will do when his deal comes to a close. We have also not heard about any contract offer from WWE.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Owens and Happy Corbin’s segment getting nixed from SmackDown was thought as something that nobody really cared about losing. This was not a case of Owens having any kind of heat over his contract. The real sticking point was pulling the women’s tag team match which featured Zelina Vega.
Due to timing issues, both that and a segment involving a second angle with Happy Corbin and Kevin Owens were pulled as the show was going on. Nobody really cared about the latter, but there was a lot of sympathy toward Vega for the former.
The rumor mill will never stop churning in the pro wrestling world, but Kevin Owens has no issues with WWE. We will have to see if his angle with Happy Corbin continues tonight on SmackDown, because the two could find themselves with an Extreme Rules match in their future.
Owens’ contract runs out in January next year because his deal was restructured, along with other Superstars, prior to the pandemic starting.
