WWE decided to bring Friday Night SmackDown to Madison Square Garden this week to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Lilian Garcia sang the National Anthem before the show began and that was simply just the start.
John Cena also competed in a match after the conclusion of the show at Madison Square Garden and sent the fans home. However, the show also featured a lot of cuts which included a huge segment and even a tag team match featuring Zelina Vega.
It was also said that WWE felt they hit a homerun with their Friday Night SmackDown episode at Madison Square Garden and now it seems we know the reason why.
Ariel Helwani took to Twitter and reported that the Madison Square Garden episode of Friday Night SmackDown produced the highest grossest Smackdown gate of all time.
Last night’s WWE Smackdown at MSG produced the highest grossest Smackdown gate of all time, per sources. Not just in NY. Of any city ever for any SD. (Smackdown has been around for 20 years.)
WWE is certainly elated with their success at Madison Square Garden and it goes to show the company case more about business than anything else.
