Gable Steveson signed a WWE contract and there is a lot of hype behind the Olympic Gold Medalist. The company is setting up a remote training facility for Steveson so he can continue with the University of Minnesota while training to become a WWE Superstar. He showed up at SummerSlam and got his first taste of a WWE crowd, and the company might have given away their intentions about his future name.
It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE announced Steveson as “Gable Dan Steveson.” That is his real name, but Steveson’s middle name hasn’t been a part of his public identity until now. There could be a big reason behind WWE using that name, and it could stick.
Steveson was introduced using the name Gable Dan Steveson, which is his real name, but as a college wrestler and athlete his middle name was never focused on. It would appear WWE felt that the name, referring to 1972 gold medalist Dan Gable, would be part of his billing. Chas Betts, who competed in the Olympics as a Greco-Roman wrestler, currently is on the roster as Chad Gable, with his wrestling name also from Dan Gable.
We’ll have to see what’s next for Steveson. He made it clear that he won’t be the next Kurt Angle, but there is certainly a lot of hope in the top young prospect. WWE is looking for more characters and Vince McMahon would love to have someone like Gable Dan Steveson to work with.
