CM Punk made his All Elite Wrestling debut on last month’s AEW Rampage: The First Dance, a move that created a lot of buzz for the company. Tony Schiavone considered it the greatest debut in pro wrestling history.
Punk himself absolutely loved his AEW debut and he has singlehandedly became the most talked-about pro wrestler on the planet right now, much to the delight of Mick Foley.
During his AEW debut, CM Punk called out Darby Allin for a match at AEW All Out and the match was subsequently made official for the event as well. He also revealed what Sting told him backstage in AEW.
CM Punk also addressed the crowd after the main event of Saturday night’s special episode of AEW Dark. CM Punk would double down on what he said about AEW’s biggest haters last week, as he told them to shut up and that AEW doesn’t need them.
“Last week, in Milwaukee, I very sarcastically sent the crowd home happy with: ‘you guys enjoyed the show? Great. Tell your friends, tweet about it.’ And then I said, ‘if you didn’t like it….’
“And what I mean by that is we don’t mind the criticism. We want the criticism, because to me it’s feedback. I said I’m no longer the voice of the voiceless, because this place doesn’t need me. This place already has a voice. I want all the criticism, I want the feedback, I want to know if you guys are happy.
“The part about shutting the f–k up is for the people who hate watch stuff and have nothing good to say, or nothing good to add to the conversation. We don’t need you, so shut the f–k up.’”
CM Punk has singlehandedly has brought back a significant amount of interest in pro wrestling again and it will be interesting to see how AEW will carry on with the momentum in the coming weeks.
