Jim Ross is one of the main voices on AEW’s announce table and he knows a thing or two about the pro wrestling business. His history in the industry is unparalleled in a lot of ways. He is a huge part of AEW and he was also right there for the Attitude Era with one of the best seats in the house. He sees the similarities.
During Grilling JR, the WWE Hall of Fame announcer spoke about AEW’s crowds as he compared them to another famous era in pro wrestling. He was right there for the biggest moments in AEW and WWE’s Attitude Era, and he feels the same kind of excitement from both fan bases.
“It’s been great, a blessing quite frankly,” Ross said. “Takes you back to a different time, different place quite frankly to many of us. It’s very Attitude Era-esque. The signs, posters, noise, enthusiasm from start to finish, it’s just been glorious.”
“Rampage has been received well, people like what they’re seeing there. I think they’re happy to have a show on Friday nights to cap off the week. It’s all good, good momentum and it’s all thanks to the fans. We appreciate their support, help build our brand and we’ll continue to do that and work hard every week.”
We’ll have to see what’s in the future. Interestingly enough, Vince McMahon said that AEW is nowhere close to the competition that WCW delivered the company so many years ago. Others might tend to disagree. At least Jim Ross can feel the same kind of energy which brought a very powerful comparison in this instance.
