The pro wrestling world certainly underwent a paradigm shift as CM Punk debuted on last week’s AEW Rampage: The First Dance. CM Punk is expected to do a lot more than simply competing inside the squared circle. It seems Punk loved his debut more than initially thought.
CM Punk was in talks with AEW for quite a long time as well. Fans and pro wrestlers alike were delighted to see him in AEW. This included Tony Schiavone. Even Jim Cornette thought CM Punk’s debut was perfect
Fans and pro wrestlers alike were elated to see CM Punk debut in AEW. This included even WWE Superstars, who indirectly referenced the debut. The moment could have brought back many lapsed fans, but we are still waiting on an official viewership number.
While speaking to the Kap & J. Hood show on ESPN 1000 Chicago, CM Punk talked about his iconic debut in AEW and stated that it might have been the greatest night of his professional wrestling career.
“Over the last seven years, I’ll take it back further, honestly. I was discussing this with a couple of my friends and that might have been the greatest moment, the greatest night of my career. So, just the entire night couldn’t have gone more perfect. The way we set it up as the worst kept secret, selling out the United Center on a rumor that I was going to be there, never announced, never advertised, shows the connection to the fanbase that AEW has.”
CM Punk also paid for the ice cream bars at AEW Rampage out of his own pocket. Punk is already set to square off against Darby Allin at the AEW All Out Pay-Per-View on September 5. He is also set to appear on AEW Dynamite next week. It will be interesting to see how Punk will fare in AEW.
