The pro wrestling world certainly underwent a change as CM Punk debuted on this week’s AEW Rampage: The First Dance. CM Punk is expected to do a lot more than simply competing inside the squared circle.
Ringside News was able to first exclusively report that CM Punk signed a contract with AEW on July 23rd and the deal was said to have come together in a hurry. It was also exclusively reported that CM Punk agreed to work 10 to 12 dates per year for AEW.
CM Punk also revealed just why he decided to sign with AEW after a seven-year-long hiatus from pro wrestling. Fans and pro wrestlers alike loved his debut and now it seems someone very expected thought highly of his debut as well.
While speaking on his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, Jim Cornette shared his thoughts regarding CM Punk’s debut in AEW. Cornette said his debut was perfect and even he couldn’t have booked it better himself.
“It wasn’t the way I would have done it, it was a lot better. It was perfect. I said it wasn’t the way I would have done it and I said it was better and here’s why, I think I told you on the phone last week, obviously everybody was pretty certain he was going to be there – the question was how and to do what? I said I wonder how this is going to be… this surprise is going to be sprung, is going to be revealed or unveiled… what manner is he going to make his debut? What I would have done was, since they know what the surprise is, surprise them in the way they get the surprise… make it to build to some moment and then… they couldn’t hear the f*cking music after that anyway,”
CM Punk is already set to square off against Darby Allin at the AEW All Out Pay-Per-View on September 5. He is also set to appear on AEW Dynamite next week. We will have to wait and see how CM Punk will be booked from now on.
