Brodie Lee tragically passed away right after Christmas last year, and few outside of AEW knew he was sick. This was a tightly-guarded secret within the AEW roster and close friends of the Huber family. CM Punk saw how the company handled the situation and he helped him gain faith in AEW.
CM Punk made his big debut for the company at Rampage: The First Dance in the United Center. This was an event that pro wrestling fans waited on for seven years. They even got ice cream bars to thank them for their patience.
While speaking to the media following his big AEW debut, CM Punk revealed that Brodie Lee’s passing and the way the company handled that terrible situation helped him gain faith in the company.
“So, again, now this kind of goes back to one of the appealing things about AEW for me, and it’s a bit of a bummer of a topic; Brodie Lee passes away. Right. Come to find out that he was sick, but nobody knew. Nobody said anything to anybody, because they knew Brodie, they loved Brodie. So, seeing that I was like, I mean there’s something about that, you know, like, if that was anywhere else, it’d be all over the internet. His poor wife would have to be dealing with that on top of already dealing with this tragic event.”
CM Punk will be a mainstay in AEW and he made that very clear. The Second City Savior is back in pro wrestling, and Ringside News exclusively reported that he is contracted to work 10 to 12 dates a year. Sadly, he will not share a locker room with Brodie Lee, but the Exalted One’s memory will certainly live on.
