Roman Reigns is on a roll since his return to the company back at WWE SummerSlam last year. He returned as the Tribal Chief and truly reinvented himself. Reigns also helped make the WWE Universal Championship a prestigious title, the most important title in all of pro wrestling according to him.
On last week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Roman Reigns engaged in a war of words with John Cena in an intense promo battle, where Reigns more than held his own against Cena. During the promo, Cena also mentioned how Roman Reigns caused Jon Moxley to leave WWE. As Ringside News exclusively reported, that promo was not rehearsed, and Vince McMahon loved how far they took things to make their reactions genuine.
While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Roman Reigns addressed John Cena’s promo where he mentioned Jon Moxley. Cena said that Reigns ran Dean Ambrose out of WWE, something Seth Rollins got a kick out of hearing. Reigns dismissed that aspect of the promo as merely energetic words on Cena’s part.
“You tell me! That’s what I’m saying. There are levels to this game, man. Like, John has skills, right? He is charismatic. He is a great public speaker. He has good energy. He really understands crowd reaction, and it’s like, when you don’t have good stuff to say, let’s just pander to the crowd. That’s what he did. The whole world may not be as informed. It’s like a professional watching another professional, and I could see that he had nothing for me. So, he is just doing that spin game and then, ‘Oh, they are counting to three with me. Let’s say that over—marketing strategy. Let’s condition them and do it fourteen times. But when it comes down to it, there was nothing that he said, there was no connection, so I don’t have a clue. As I said, it was quite the experience to see him out there. It was just words, just a whole bunch of energetic words.”
It will be interesting to see how Roman Reigns will fare against John Cena in his WWE Universal Title match at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view on August 21st. John Cena and Roman Reigns have done everything they can to hype their SummerSlam match. Only time will tell what they have in store next as WWE presents the go-home episode of SmackDown before the biggest party of the summer.
