CM Punk is bound for AEW at this point, and he will presumably make his debut for the company on Friday’s First Dance special edition of Rampage. His time in WWE came to an end in a bitter way, all the while he proclaimed himself “the best in the world.”
While speaking with Ariel Helwani, Roman Reigns did not shy away from talking about CM Punk. His name might be banned from WWE television, but The Tribal Chief spoke his mind about CM Punk’s claim to be best in the world. In the end, Reigns said that Punk isn’t as good, or as over, as John Cena.
This question started off by asking Reigns what he thinks about part-timers coming in to take big spots, but Reigns used this as a means to mention Punk as Helwani brought him up as an example of someone who is coming back to pro wrestling.
“I mean those statements are coming from bitter people who possibly thought that they were better than they really were. When it comes down to it, CM Punk was not as good or as over as a John Cena. Was not as good or as over and moved the needle like The Rock. It was what it was.”
“As a full-time performer, I understand the frustration in wanting more, but like I said, you gotta take it. I’m a full-time performer, but I’ve done everything that needs to be done to stay in this position against a John Cena and if anybody ever comes along to push me out of that scenario I’m gonna fight like hell to keep the ground that I have made.”
Roman Reigns’ praise for Cena won’t last long. The two are bound for a battle at SummerSlam this Saturday. The Universal Title will be on the line, and there will be no time for comparisons to CM Punk in Allegiant Stadium.
