Chris Jericho has a lot of really good ideas, but some of them just don’t work out. Back in May, The Inner Circle took on The Pinnacle in the first-ever ‘Blood & Guts’ match and it was certainly a brutal affair, nothing short of an all-out war. Despite some apparent flaws in execution, the match was one of the most significant moments in AEW Dynamite’s history.
AEW was set to host the ‘Blood & Guts’ match back in March of last year as it was going to take place between The Inner Circle and The Elite. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented that from happening. While speaking on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Chris Jericho revealed that he pitched the idea of hosting the ‘Blood & Guts’ match in his backyard.
“We’re actually sitting in my backyard right now. When the lockdown started, at one point we were still thinking about maybe doing Blood & Guts last year and there was nowhere to do it. I was like, ‘Why don’t we do it in my backyard and do kind of one of those Inoki/Saito Island Deathmatch things?’ There’s plenty of room here. That’s the thing, there’s a different backyard version here than what you would have done back in the day.”
As fans know, the match did not end up taking place in Chris Jericho’s backyard but we can’t help but wonder just how different the match would have been, had it taken place there. AEW decided to shelve the Blood & Guts match for another year, but that 365 plus days was well worth the wait.
