Samoa Joe is one of the most talented and accomplished pro wrestlers around and his time in WWE has been eventful. Joe won the NXT Title and was later placed on the main roster, even if he was told he shouldn’t expect to receive a call-up. He was injured prior to his WWE release, but he had in-ring return plans after getting removed from the commentary table.

Samoa Joe made his debut in NXT back in 2015 after he parted ways with TNA Wrestling that year. He became one of the mainstays of the black and gold brand in no time. Now he is back on NXT after a run on the main roster and getting released.

While speaking to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Samoa Joe revealed that there was a timetable for his in-ring return before he was released by WWE.

“No, it wasn’t a case of that (not being able to get cleared). Obviously I was still trying. There was a little bit more recovery time involved there, so there was a timetable for the recovery, it’s not like it was very far off – obviously (laughs).
