CM Punk was at the top of his game as an active WWE Superstar and singlehandedly made the company interesting again with his infamous pipebomb promo. Ringside News exclusively reported that Punk has signed a contract with AEW. It was also reported that Punk is reportedly 100% for an AEW Chicago show, and many are expecting to see him on August 20th at the United Center.

The pro wrestling world continues to discuss CM Punk’s impending debut to AEW, and now it seems former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio is also giving his take on the subject matter. Del Rio and Punk had their share of battles in WWE.

While speaking to Pro Wrestling Defined, Alberto Del Rio talked about CM Punk making his way to AEW. Del Rio made it clear that he thinks CM Punk debut in AEW will be a huge win for the pro wrestling world in general.

”When I heard the news and rumors about Punk making a comeback gave me joy. I was so happy to hear that because he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. A fantastic guy, a fantastic person. Someone that since day number one, he became my friend. He was always helping me.

I’m happy. If it’s real that he is going to wrestle again, it doesn’t matter where he goes. WWE, AEW, they are going to win. I mean, the companies and the fans. We are all going to win with CM Punk if he returns to the ring again.”

Del Rio also had major props to give toward John Cena for making him a better wrestler. Obviously Mexico’s Greatest Export is trying to say good things as he inserts himself back into the pro wrestling world following those messy allegations of kidnapping and sexual assault last year.

CM Punk dropped several hints regarding his debut in AEW. He is obviously having fun with this situation. AEW fans are also throwing out tons of jokes aimed at Tony Khan in case Punk doesn’t show up in Chicago.

The AEW locker room is certainly excited about CM Punk signing with the company. We will have to wait and see if CM Punk truly will debut at the AEW Rampage: First Dance event next week.
