CM Punk references will always perk up the ears of wrestling fans all over, especially nowadays. Ringside News exclusively reported that Punk has signed a contract with AEW, and it was also said that Punk is 100% for an AEW Chicago show. Many are expecting to see him on August 20th at the United Center.
On this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, John Cena and Roman Reigns engaged in a heated promo battle where Cena also brought up Dean Ambrose and claimed that Roman Reigns ran him out of WWE. On top of that John Cena also made a reference to CM Punk’s iconic match against Cena at Money In The Bank 2011.
“Roman, you’re gonna put on a hell of a show, but I’m just gonna hang in there for 1, 2, 3. And then I’m gonna take your title, jump the barricade and run out of Allegiant Stadium as fast as I can. I may even blow you a kiss goodbye.”
Now it seems CM Punk seemingly reacted to the promo as he took to his Instagram story and uploaded a GIF of Lord Voldemort the main antagonist in J. K. Rowling’s series of Harry Potter novels. In both novels and films, Voldemort has monikers such as “You-Know-Who” or “He Who Must Not Be Named.” Many are under the belief that Punk was referencing that promo since he can be vaguely mentioned, but never named specifically on WWE television. The timing of his post and Cena’s comment certainly adds up as well.
It is not known why John Cena decided to reference CM Punk hot on the heels of him appearing in AEW soon enough. Regardless, it was certainly a great promo that many fans appreciated.
