WWE is planning another episode of SmackDown tonight as they build toward the biggest party of the summer. John Cena will take on Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Title at SummerSlam on August 21st, and the 16x World Champion will be on the blue brand’s show tonight.
Roman Reigns hasn’t been shy about shading Cena. He even made a “missionary position” joke that needed to be cut from television. The Tribal Chief still has no idea why WWE cut that line out. It seems that feud is getting an even larger spotlight.
The company has serval big matches ready for SummerSlam, but John Cena and Roman Reigns’ names are undeniably huge. A recent report from Wrestle Votes said that the company plans to capitalize on their huge names, especially during tonight’s episode.
Source in creative said an objective for tonight’s SmackDown was to really amp up the rivalry between Reigns & Cena. The match will sell itself on names alone, but some feel the build has been lackluster.
WWE booked Cena for a couple of television episodes that he did not appear on. He did work dark matches for the live fans, but he hasn’t been on television every week since the Summer of Cena started. Fans should expect big things from John Cena tonight as WWE delivers another episode of SmackDown.
