Roman Reigns is the current WWE Universal Champion and is one of the top Superstars in the company right now. He has proven himself to be an excellent champion with great character work and in-ring skills. Reigns’ reinvention as a heel has truly shown just how good he can be both as an in-ring performer and character. It came after several years of being forced onto fans as a babyface.
There is certainly no doubt that most WWE Superstars who have faced off against Roman Reigns in the past year has come off better, especially someone like Jey Uso.
While speaking to Pat McAfee on the Pat McAfee Show, Roman Reigns talked about making his opponents better after they face him. Reigns felt that he has a priority and obligation to make raise his opponents’ stock when they leave.
”It’s a fine line where you have to protect yourself, value yourself, and be strong in your fight for creative and the stories you want to tell. At the same time, I’ve raised everybody’s stock. That’s why it’s the island of relevancy. Anyone who steps in the ring with me, there is a priority and obligation for me to make them better for when they leave. To be able to lift everybody is a special trait I think I have as a performer; to make everyone more relevant, make them a better performer, and get more attention and more eyeballs on them; hence why John Cena picked me. That weird and delicate juggling game you have to play to protect yours but also make everything better to stay in that top position.”
Roman Reigns will be putting his WWE Universal Championship on the line against John Cena at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view on August 21. We will have to wait and see if he will be able to retain his title or not.
