Adam Cole’s contract with WWE’s NXT brand expired in July without the company offering him a new deal. He agreed to stay with NXT through August’s NXT TakeOver: 36 event on August 22nd, and his future is still a huge matter of question. He had a “high power meeting” with Vince McMahon prior to SmackDown on Friday, but the company has yet to offer him a long term contract. It was also reported that Vince McMahon wants Cole on the main roster and writers were tasked to come up with storyline ideas for the former NXT Champion. The desire to keep Adam Cole in WWE isn’t as strong as some reports have suggested.
Ringside News asked around about Adam Cole’s situation and a tenured member of the creative team informed us that there is “no huge push” to keep him in the company. It was said that fans “shouldn’t get [their] hopes up” regarding this situation, because “there’s just money being thrown his way for a role most people won’t believe.”
An erroneous rumor is also floating around the internet wrestling community that a $1 million contract was offered to Adam Cole. When inquiring about that rumor, we were told: “I wouldn’t put much stock into that million dollar offer.”
AEW and WWE are both plausible options for Adam Cole at this time. Tony Khan denied offering any deal to Cole, but there are obvious connection between Cole and All Elite Wrestling. He is dating AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker, but AEW’s resident dentist already made it clear that she will be happy for Adam Cole’s no matter which company he picks.
WWE’s NXT TakeOver: 36 event will see Adam Cole take on Kyle O’Reilly once again. That match with his former Undisputed Era stablemate could be Cole’s final bout under WWE’s umbrella.
