Ever since Matt Riddle signed with WWE, he has been one of the mainstays of WWE television, be it in NXT or the main roster. His in-ring skills are one of the best in the company and he already has a good fan following. That doesn’t mean Mr. McMahon was all in from the get-go.
Matt Riddle’s character has certainly gotten over with fans thanks to his comedic timing and generally cool attitude while still being that of a stoner character. However, it seems not everyone understood Matt Riddle’s character at first and that includes WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
While speaking to Sony Sports India, Matt Riddle talked about his relationship with Vince McMahon. Matt Riddle revealed that Vince McMahon didn’t really understand his gimmick at first, but now he has a much better understanding of it.
I don’t worry about stuff like that. I remember when I met Vince [McMahon] for the first time in his office and we’re talking and I go like I did all this and that but I’m kind of goofy and he’s like, ‘You don’t want to be goofy’ and I was like, ‘But I am’. Like, I don’t know what you want me to do and Bruce Prichard and other people went, ‘No, Vince, he’s not like a goof, he’s just funny’ and he’s like, ‘Yeah, you don’t want to be a goof’.
I’m like, ‘No, I don’t think you get it, you don’t have any goofs on your roster right now, I can stand out like a sore thumb’. At first, I don’t think he got it, I don’t think he understood me. And, I don’t think he completely understands me yet now but he has a much better idea of how I do things
For the past few months Matt Riddle has been teaming up with Randy Orton as Team RK-Bro and it has certainly been a hit with fans. However, Randy Orton has not been seen on Monday Night RAW since June. With Riddle feuding with RAW Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Omos, we wonder if Randy Orton will make his return before the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.
