WWE released Bray Wyatt from his contract today, and the pro wrestling world reacted in a big way. Now everyone is waiting for his next move, because we all know it won’t be with WWE. This release was caused by many factors, and it wasn’t a cut and dry situation.
According to a report from PW Insider, employees were “stunned” within the company, and that would be a “massive understatement.” Bray Wyatt was a huge merchandise seller for the company and they had a lot of things tied to his character.
It was reported that fingers are being pointed at WWE President Nick Khan and CFO Kristina Salen. The two are “so obsessed with the company not being even one iota in the red on the financial ledgers.” After all, Bray Wyatt was pulling down a hefty contract at this stage in his career.
It was also noted that Wyatt and Vince McMahon’s relationship might have been an issue. The two “ran very hot and colt at times” in terms of their relationship.
Others noted that Wyatt and Vince McMahon’s relationship behind the scenes ran very hot and cold at times and that McMahon has given Khan the ability to run things far more than anyone else has historically been able to accomplish, so there was likely less of a push-back over the idea of cutting a big money contract from the ledger.
We previously covered how Bray Wyatt was very protective of his character as well. This led to some frustration on his part. Apparently, all of these things came to a head and it led to his release from the company.
