WWE started a new formula with booking their champions in a title match. The challenger must beat the champion first in a “championship contender” match first. This method doesn’t make much sense to many fans including Jimmy Korderas.
During a recent Reffin’ Rant, Korderas railed on the new championship contender booking strategy. He said that it doesn’t make any sense at all, and that’s all he wants out of pro wrestling.
“Championship contenders matches — is this the — this makes absolutely no sense! Look, all I want from my pro wrestling is for these things to make sense. So, now they have this buzzword ‘championship contenders match’ where you have to beat the champion to get a title match?”
“Damian Priest had to beat Sheamus to get a title match, so you have to beat the champion twice? And Charlotte Flair, not only is she in a championship match in a three-way against Nikki and Rhea? She has to wrestle her again in a contenders’ match? This matches zero sense.”
We’ll have to see how long this idea lasts. Obviously, it is something that Vince McMahon is fond of right now. That doesn’t make it any more logical. At this point, contenders will have an even tougher time getting their title matches because of this new hurdle in the booking strategy.
