CM Punk regained interest in making a pro wrestling return and WWE is not the only game in town. Now he is headed to AEW after the two sides were finally able to work something out.
Ringside News reported that CM Punk has signed a deal with AEW. Tony Khan isn’t admitting to any of the big signings at this time, including Daniel Bryan who also inked a deal.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted in the latest issue that, “The last we heard WWE wasn’t interested in Punk, but AEW being interested in him could have easily changed that tune.” We have new information about that subject.
Ringside News asked around about the possibility that Vince McMahon’s company might have interest in bringing back CM Punk after so much attention was brought to him. We were explicitly told that: “WWE has no interest in doing business with Punk.”
CM Punk walked out of WWE in 2014 and hasn’t looked back. The company sent him his release papers on his wedding day, and the two sides have not been close to working anything out since. Now CM Punk can go to AEW, but those we spoke to in WWE have no interest in competing with an AEW offer to get Punk back instead of watching him go to the competition.
We will have to see how AEW treats CM Punk and how often he actually performs for the company, but WWE doesn’t seem as jealous as some would like you to think.
